When you begin a landscaping project, you will quickly find that you are faced with countless options of beautiful, magazine-worthy features that you can incorporate into your design. And if you are not careful, that budget that you had originally set for yourself can quickly evaporate.
But you don’t have to break the bank to have a beautiful yard or garden. We strongly urge our customers to keep their project within their budget. In some cases, this may mean you will have to modify your expectations. For example, if you are quoted $20,000 to achieve your dream landscape and your budget is only half that amount, your contractor will have to eliminate or change certain features in order to bring the project within your budget. But if you keep an open mind, there is no reason why you still can’t have a beautiful outdoor space. You do, however, have to make sure that your wish list is realistic when you take your budget into account.
Here are a few reasons why staying within your budget is important:
Staying within the original plan makes the whole project go more smoothly.
Before a landscaping project begins, a member of our team will discuss with you your vision and budget. Our designers will work to put together a plan that accommodates both. As stated earlier however, for us to bring down the budget, crossing a few things off your wish list may be required. We will communicate back and forth with you until you are happy with the plan and work can begin.
Once work begins, deciding to add another feature or change the plan completely can be very disruptive. It can increase the amount of time needed to complete the project. The costs that will be added will not only include the costs of materials but also additional labour costs – possibly even having to undo some of the work that was already done to accommodate the new plan. In short, you may think you are only going a little over budget, when in truth you may end up having to spend more than you think you would.
More isn’t always better.
Another reason to stay within budget is that when you add more to your landscaping plans, you may not be happy with the result if you add too many additional features. When developing a landscaping plan, each feature and part of the landscape has to have a certain flow. And just because a feature looks good in a friend’s yard or on that HGTV show you saw, does not mean it is suitable for your outdoor space. The design could end up looking disjointed or even too busy.
This is one of the reasons why working with an experienced landscape designer is so beneficial. We can help you choose just the right elements while staying within your budget.
We want you to enjoy your space!
Our third, and possibly the most important, reason that we want you to stay within your budget is that we want you to enjoy your space. No matter what your design preferences are, it is our mission to create an outdoor space that will bring you joy and that you will want to spend time in.
But if you end up going into a lot of debt to create your landscape design, you may find that it represents a source of stress rather than a source of happiness.
If you are thinking about a new landscaping project this year, then we invite you to give us a call at Envision Landscapes to discuss it. We would be happy to show you what you can accomplish with your budget.
